Earliest meeting: Thursday 22nd June 1882 Final meeting: Monday 16th June 1890 The Irish racecourse at the town of Athboy, an agricultural town on the Yellow Ford River in County Meath, first held races in 1882. The inaugural meeting was held on Thursday 22nd June 1882 when known as the Allenstown and Athboy Races. The town benefitted from having a station on the Midland Great Western Railway line and by 1887 was staging its own meetings. The principal race at the meeting on Monday 16th May 1887 was the Athboy Plate, one of 5 races on the card. Meetings continued annually for the next 3 years until a final card took place on Monday 16th June 1890. Although racing continued after this time, they were minor affairs.
